WEEKLY 75 Practice, One Yoga

SeritaHome.JPG

Your Practice is your Sadhana:

"Everything can be sadhana. The way you eat, the way you sit, the way you stand, the way you breathe, the way you conduct your body, mind and your energies and emotions – this is sadhana. Sadhana does not mean any specific kind of activity, sadhana means you are using everything as a tool for your wellbeing."

We will work with deeper understandings of the energetic body, dharma, and meditation to awaken what we are asleep to, Ground our beings into the deepest, sweetest layers of our truth and desire, receiving greater insight and widsom, (jnana) to recieve, open and align to all of life.

These teachings are such a gift and I'm humbled that I can share them to all.

I can't wait to work with you!

One Yoga Bookclub: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

912sTagoCXL-1.jpg

”Drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, a mother, and a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings—asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass—offer us gifts and lessons, even if we’ve forgotten how to hear their voices. In a rich braid of reflections that range from the creation of Turtle Island to the forces that threaten its flourishing today, she circles toward a central argument: that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings will we be capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learn to give our own gifts in return,” -Milkweed Press

This is an extrodinary book, and I’m thrilled to bring it to the studio to discuss, unpack Kimmerer’s work.

We will be discussing this at an auspicious time before the American Thanksgiving Holiday

This session is free and open to all November 11th 1-3:30p

Please complete the book in it’s entirety, bring a journal and a pen.

OY Book Club: Emergent Strategy by Adrienne Maree Brown

This summer I will be leading a Dharma practice on Emergent Strategy by Adrienne Maree Brown.

We will discuss collectively the ways in which Brown navigates ideas around transformative justice and how that correlates to a deeper practice in the yogic tradition.

From practical uses of the bandhas and asana to the importance of grounding into our truth this practice seeks to make room for ourselves, see one another, and be inspired!

This session will take place at One Yoga in Minneapolis.  Suggested donation of $10. Bring your mat and a copy of the book.  (mats are also free for use at the studio)

NEW! Workshops, Practice & Retreat

The Revolution is always concerned with the least glamorous stuff
— Alice Walker
 Taylor’s Falls, by Serita

Taylor’s Falls, by Serita

Healing ourselves is not a performance, a feat, or victory to be sought after, but a practice, a journey, an embodiment of all that is sacred in your life.  Summer's warm weather means challenging ourselves to dismiss body idealism and center ourselves in body and being holism.  What does this mean?  It means that when we enter a healing practice we maintain an open mind, holding all the practices in our being that were given to us from teachers, community, ancestors and letting go of anything that stands in the way of that.

After teaching for Ben Vincent, who after 13 years went on sabbatical and asked me to take over for him, I am returning to my regular drop in schedule with new and exciting collaboration on the horizon!

HEALING OURSELVES: TOOLS FOR LIBERATION AND REST with Serita Colette

June 28th and 29th

I will be leading two workshops and supporting an unconference at this year's National Education Association's Conference on Racial & Social Justice.  This event brings in over 700 educators from around the country to create dialogue, uplift intersections of social justice and uplift our black and brown educators.  I am so thankful to Stephanie Luongo & Shilpa Reddy for this incredible opportunity to share my teachings!

EVENT INFO:
Serita Colette, Serita Yoga, Minneapolis, MN

We must challenge the notion that any movement can exist fully without creating space, tools, and education for health and wellbeing. Join this yoga and guided relaxation session to honor and nourish the resilience of our nation’s educators and communities to explore how the healing powers of yoga can ease some of the symptoms of racial trauma. This is a welcoming and affirming space open to participants of all abilities.

Winter Solstice: NIDRA

 Ely, MN

Ely, MN

"There is a wide yawning black infinity. In every direction the extension is endless, the sensation of depth is overwhelming. And the darkness is immortal. Where light exists, it is pure, blazing, fierce; but light exists almost nowhere, and the blackness itself is also pure and blazing and fierce."  -Carl Sagan

The Winter Solstice is a reminder of all that draws back to the source.  Quieting habitats, darkened night skies, dusk of the outer world eluding to the power of drawing inward.

Retreat your body, mind, and spirit in the power of rest, solitude, and inner reflection.

We will do a powerful Nidra + Sankalpa Practice to awaken your inner light as we draw into this time of darkness.

This practice is open to all levels.

MadeHereMN for Artist Akiko Ostlund by Lance W Conrad

I recently collaborated with artist Akiko Ostlund for Made Here MN, a public art showcase in the heart of downtown Minneapolis through The Hennepin Theatre Trust.

This showcase of local artists is displayed throughout west downtown in local windows and vacant storefronts.  Akiko created a collage of portraits which is up on 8th and Hennepin near First Avene.  It's a direct response to the recent news of neo-nazi and kkk movements taking place in our city.  She chose 15 artists of color to center our innate joy and freedom in the wake of violence and extremism.  It's a really great piece and will be up through the superbowl.  If you are ever downtown you may find me!
